Sometimes people can mistakenly think of a ‘church’ as a building. It’s not! A church is simply a group of everyday, regular people who gather together (sometimes in a ‘church’ building and sometimes not !) to do life, know God and to make the good news of Jesus Christ known.
Churches of Christ in Queensland is not a denomination or a centrally organised church per. se. – it is a co-operative of independent local churches who each choose to gather together for mutual support, action and witness to this great state and beyond. With a history in Queensland dating back to the early pioneering days of the Brisbane River settlement, there are currently over 70 CofCQld churches in Queensland. From the Gold Coast to Cairns, and the Outback to the Coast, churches range in size and style but they are all a mainstream Christian witness in their local communities.
Additionally, the churches together operate a number of statewide agencies in areas such as aged care, family & community care, theological training, community financial services, youth services, early childhood services, etc. The Churches of Christ in Queensland seeks to be a dynamic missional movement to Queensland, and our key values include:
