State-wide call to prayer The Conference Council has issued a state-wide call to prayer. The purpose of the prayer initiative is to hear the voice of God, for His directions both individually, and for our movement as a whole.
Every week a prayer list will be developed suggesting items for prayer to focus on that week. This prayer focus will culminate on Saturday 28 August in a 12 hour prayer vigil from 6am to 6pm. We are inviting every church in the state to participate in this. Each week the prayer lists will be uploaded to this page. Please join with us as we pray for spiritual renewal across the state.

In the News - Pakistan flooding crisisIt is hard to comprehend the scale of destruction in Pakistan at the moment. The flooding, the worst in 80 years, is impacting agricultural land with 1.4 million acres affected in central Punjab province. The damage is worst in the north western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Recent reports from the United Nations indicate that the number of people affected by Pakistan's floods is now estimated to be 13.8 million. Churches of Christ Overseas Aid has launched an emergency appeal as part of the Action by Churches Together Alliance global appeal for the victims of the flooding. Funds are being administered through the ACT Alliance partners on the ground in Pakistan. Your giving to the COCOA Pakistan Appeal is one way of expressing your care and support for those so dreadfully impacted by the disaster. Click here to read more about the flooding in Pakistan. Churches of Christ Sunday - October 3rd 2010The Council of Churches of Christ Australia (CCCA) has decided to build create a Sunday where we focus on who we are as a Movement. We are suggesting that the 1st Sunday in October will become Churches of Christ Sunday. It is an opportunity for attendees to connect with our history and get a greater understanding of what it means to be Churches of Christ.
Our theme for 2010 will be: We are a people of an open table...
This theme is, of course, a reference to our characteristic of allowing all those who love Jesus to join with us in Communion. It can also be described as a "generous hospitality" or "full communion". All resourcing for this day will be provided by the CCCA office, and ideally it will cover a spectrum of media. Churches will receive the resources in pdf form, and will be encouraged to use them in whatever way is culturally appropriate for their church setting.
We feel that creating an opportunity for churches to help their members understand who they are is an important step. Our aim is not that we simply remember the past but that we: remember our heritage, acknowledge our present and imagine our future.
As E L Williams writes in Churches of Christ - An Interpretation: The Lord's Supper involves the past, present and future. It is an act of remembrance in which we are reminded of the earthly life and death of our Lord...But it is more than a memorial; it is also a communion with a Lord who not only lived and died, but who rose from the dead and lives as an ever available Saviour. (pg 70)
We would ask that you set aside some part of this upcoming day to reflect on who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going. We acknowledge that some of our churches may celebrate "World Communion Sunday" on that day and, if that is the case for your church, we would ask that you remember "Churches of Christ Sunday" at a more convenient time.
Feel free to contact Craig Brown, Federal Coordinator of Churches of Christ, at or 03 9488 8800 for more information.
